Sustainable Chemistry

Course content

The course will give an introduction to green and sustainable chemistry. This will be done by lectures and mandatory student paper presentation. Topics will include:

  • Atom economy
  • Waste management and Prevention
  • Measuring and Controlling Environmental Performance
  • Green catalysis and green solvents
  • Renewable Resources
  • Emerging Greener Technologies and Alternative Energy Sources
  • Designing Greener Processes
Learning outcome

The student is expected to acquire:

Knowledge:
Obtain knowledge of green and sustainable chemistry as described in the course content i.e. Atom economy, Waste management and Prevention
Measuring and Controlling Environmental Performance, Green catalysis and green solvents, Renewable Resources, Emerging Greener Technologies and Alternative Energy Sources and Designing Greener Processes

Skills:
To be able to read, understand and analyse a scientific paper within the field of sustainable chemistry

Competencies:
To be able to present a scientific paper in sustainable chemistry in an understandable manner and to be able to discuss critically
