Course content

Course in Danish Culture is a course for international students taught in English and offered each semester.

 

The course is offered only to international students admitted to the University of Copenhagen. The course aims at providing a broad introduction to Danish culture. The focus is on Danish history, literature and art. During the course, the students will attend a number of excursions and lectures to get both a theoretical and hands-on experience of Danish culture.

Learning outcome

At the examination, the student can demonstrate:

 

Knowledge and understanding of

  • the overall themes in Danish history, culture, and society, as well as special aspects of Danish culture and society
  • key aspects of Danish culture and society’s anchoring in, for example,
  • European cultural history
  • details that are relevant in a given context.
  •  

Skills in

  • analysing individual aspects in the context of Danish culture in time and space
  • formulating cultural and social problems and explanations on a very wide scale in time and space
  • presenting and communicating the insights in a relevant way.

 

Competencies in

  • relating analytically to history, culture, and social conditions in terms of specific details and over-all themes and currents.

A number of lectures and relevant excursions, made in conjunction with the course.

Knud J. V. Jespersen, ’A History of Denmark’, several editions. Other texts will be available online.

The course is only offered to exchange and fee-paying guest students at the University of Copenhagen.
