OLD, Introduction to the Ancient Cultures of Egypt and Mesopotamia (E26)

Upon completion of the course, the student will be able to demonstrate:

Knowledge of:

• central aspects of the culture and history of Egypt and Mesopotamia from the invention of writing to the Roman period, including political and social conditions, art, literature and science, religion, and burial practices
• the nature and scope of the source material
• basic methodological and theoretical approaches within the disciplines.

Skills in:

• engaging with historical problems
• assessing and explaining the use of sources at a basic level
• reading and engaging with scholarly literature at a basic level
• using traditional and digital media for information retrieval.

Competencies to:

• communicate the cultural history of the region orally at a basic level
• take responsibility for your own learning
• analyse scholarly literature in foreign languages.
