AMIS: Key Concepts and Analytical Approaches in Migration Studies

Course content

This course examines key concepts and analytical frameworks central to migration research. We will critically explore the significance of these concepts – such as coloniality and intersectionality – for understanding migration processes and experiences. Drawing on classical and contemporary theory and research from across the social sciences and humanities, as well as literary and visual works, we will analyze how migration is shaped by and, in turn, reshapes social structures, identities, and imaginaries. The course consists of weekly lectures and student-led tutorials.
