English - Elective Subject, topic 1: America: an Exploration in Contemporary Culture, Literature, Politics, and Society
Course content
The United States is as fascinating as bedeviling. America: an Exploration in Contemporary Culture, Literature, Politics, and Society aims to augment your understanding of the United States through interdisciplinary work, and has the present as its point of departure.
Joe Goddard’s component, dealing with American culture, politics
and society, analyses the interplay between governing structures,
policy formation, and social outcomes with the second Trump
administration soon facing voters in the midterms. It considers
polarization and the enduring significance of the second Trump
Administration.
Inge Birgitte Siegumfeldt’s component trains its focus on American
culture and literature featuring key movements, texts and films
that have shaped the landscape of American aesthetical and
intellectual culture from the last decades of the twentieth century
until today. The undoing of conventional paradigms will be at the
core of this part of the course.
The two components run separately but complement each other. The
components are examined together.
