Akkadian 1
Course content
This course offers an introduction to the Akkadian language, the oldest of the Semitic languages. Students will be introduced to the cuneiform writing system and the basics of Akkadian grammar. The focus will lie on the Old Babylonian dialect of Akkadian.
To strengthen the students’ ability to work with the Akkadian language and cuneiform, the course will introduce and practice the use of dictionaries and signlists, as well as relevant digital resources. Students will be given regular homework assignments with Old Babylonian text for each class, and throughout the course they will solve grammatical problems within a fixed time frame.
