Integrated Water Resources Modelling

Course content

Fundamentals of surface and subsurface flow processes, fluxes between hydrological compartments in relation to climate, topography, and geological settings.

Hydrological modelling principles, model types, terminology, modelling protocol. Mathematical and numerical principles. Integrated hydrological modelling, process descriptions and model formulations. Introduction to the MIKE SHE model. Discretization, parameterization, data requirements, performance criteria. Calibration framework for integrated hydrological modelling, automated optimization, parameter uncertainty analysis.

Use of models in sustainable water resources management, uncertainty and risk assessments in water resources management, impact of climate change. Integrated water resources management, examples of typical water management conflicts and management instruments, case study on use of MIKE SHE to support water resources studies in Africa.
