AMIS: Key Concepts and Analytical Approaches in Migration Studies

Course content

This course focuses on a range of crucial concepts in migration research like ‘culture’, ‘nationality’, ‘racialisation’ and ‘gender’ to help build out a critical analytical vocabulary for engaging with migration issues. Through engaging with social science and humanities texts, migration literature and artistic expressions, we will reflect on the importance of these concepts for analyzing and understanding migration. At the end of the course, you will be asked to use these concepts in the analysis of a case that pertains to migration experiences and conditions. You will be selecting and constructing the case yourself, investigating it through social sciences and humanities analytical techniques. The course is organized with weekly lectures and student-run tutorials, as well as occasional workshops and seminars.
