Syllabus

The written take-home assignment is based on Academic targets

At the examination, the student can demonstrate:

Knowledge and understanding of

The historical, political, economic, social and cultural development of China.

The conditions for producing knowledge about China’s development.

Skills in

Communicating knowledge about China’s history.

Communicating in writing at a scholarly level with references to scientific texts and correct use of references and bibliographies.

Analysing tacit assumptions and stereotypes that colour opinions in many accounts China, and which are described in theories about orientalism, sinologism, etc.

Competencies in

Finding and critically evaluating information on aspects of China’s history and culture

Communicating knowledge of China’s history and culture in accordance with academic standards.

625 standard pages of scientific literature of which a minimum of 300 pages is set by the examiner.

For the make-up exam/resit, however, the assignment is based on 625 standard pages of scientific literature set by the examiner.

Teaching and working methods

Compulsory class instruction with lectures, active student participation and group presentations.

Exam provisions

Exam form: Continuous Assessment exam.

The exam consists of two compulsory written home assignments:

•  A bibliography with a problem statement within the framework of the syllabus and as defined as the examiner. Two weeks are given for submission. The problem statement should not exceed 0.5 standard pages.

•  A set written home assignment of 7-9 standard pages. Three weeks are given for completion.

Assessment:

Assessment: Internal exam with one examiner, the 7-point grading Scale. The set written home assignment consisting of a bibliography and problem statement accounts for 20% of the final grade. The compulsory home assignment of 7-9 standard pages accounts for 80% of the final grade. Both parts of the continuous assessment must be passed to pass the course/exam.

Regulations for group exams: This exam can only be taken individually.

Exam language(s): English.

Permitted exam aids: All.

Special provisions:

Regarding the Continuous Assessment Exam: The bibliography is not included in the calculation of the standard page count, as pr. the Shared curriculum for study programmes at the Faculty of Humanities., Section 7.

Make-up exam: The written exam (set subject) comprises of 2-4 questions covering the entire syllabus.
