Course content

Intended learning outcomes:

Knowledge of: 

  • The main characteristics of the historical development of the Balkans up to the present. 
  • The main characteristics of the development of the Balkans in terms of cultural history and literary history up to the present 
  • Relevant concepts and approaches for analysing historical and cultural-historical issues.

 

Skills in

  • applying and adopting a critical approach to international academic literature.
  • assessing and applying sources of different types and from different media, including translated literature.
  • identifying and discussing significant issues within the history and cultural history of the countries studied.
  • explaining and communicating significant issues within the history and cultural history of the countries studied.

  • familiarizing oneself with comprehensive historical and cultural-historical topics.
  • adopting an independent and critical approach to academic literature and sources.
  • presenting knowledge and issues clearly and accurately.

Class instruction with lectures, discussions and presentations. The instruction gives special emphasis to the training and development of written presentation.

A syllabus of 800-1,000 standard pages of academic literature and a total of eight literary or cinematic works from the countries studied in translation/with subtitles.

At the examination, the student can demonstrate:

  • The main characteristics of the development of Poland or the Balkans in terms of cultural history and literary history up to the present
  • Relevant concepts and approaches for analysing historical and cultural-historical issues.

  • assessing and applying sources of different types and from different media, including translated literature.
  • identifying and discussing significant issues within the history and cultural history of the country(-ies) studied.

Syllabus

The examiner compiles a syllabus of 800-1,000 standard pages of academic literature and a total of eight literary or cinematic works from the language field in translation/with subtitles.

 

Teaching and working methods

Class instruction with lectures, discussions and presentations. The instruction gives special emphasis to the training and development of written presentation.

 

Exam provisions

Form of exam: Take-home assignment on set subject.

Scope: 8–10 standard pages. The students have 7 days to complete their paper.

Assessment: Internal exam with a single examiner with assessment based on the 7-point grading scale.

Regulations for group exams: The exam can only be taken individually.

Exam language(s): Danish or English.

Permitted exam aids: All.

Make-up exam/resit: Conducted in the same manner as the ordinary exam.
