Thesis colloquium
Course content
The aim of the course is to introduce students to methodological and theoretical issues relevant to the writing of their theses. Students will be introduced to methodological and theoretical positions which are important in studying religions in the ancient world as well as to the methodology of historical reconstruction. The course is partly based on joint reading of selected methodological and theoretical texts, partly on discussions of students’ presentations of their theses.
The Religious Roots of Europe
The students must acquire a firm understanding of methods and theories relevant for the study of ancient religions and for historical reconstruction. They must be able to reflect on the relationship between textual material and the choice of methods and theories and on the analytical consequences of choosing particular methods and theories.
The course is based on a combination of class discussions of texts and individual student presentations.
The course literature will be given at the start of the course.
