AMIS: Migration and Societies - Practices and Arenas

Course content

The course provides an understanding of the key concepts and policy issues that relates to questions of migration and societies, such as immigrant settlement, multiculturalism, minority/majority relations and processes of categorization.

The course is case-based and focusses on three arenas for interaction between migrant and host society, namely education, labor market and residential areas.

During the course, students will plan and carry out a field study related to the topic of the course, preferably in one of the arenas the course touches upon. The field study will form the basis for a project that may be undertaken by groups (max 5) or individual students. This will result in a written report that serves as the students’ final product, on the basis of which their performance will be assessed.
