Sport Psychology and Identity

Course content

The course deals with an introduction to sport and exercise psychology and psychological theories of personality and identity. Theories will be related to various contexts, including elite sport, sport at the broader community level, and sport and health.

Learning outcome

Knowledge:

The students will obtain basic knowledge of psychological concepts and theories about personality, identity, motivation, cognition, emotions and social relations, and knowledge about the application of these psychological concepts and theories in various sports contexts.

 

Skills:

The students will acquire skills to reflect upon and evaluate the relevance of psychological concepts and theories in relation to the understanding psychological phenomena within sport.

The students will be able to compare different psychological concepts and theories, and relate these concepts and theories to different sport-related situations and problems.

 

Compentencies:

The students will be able to account for the choice of relevant psychological concepts and theories in relation to a given problem within sport.

The students will be able to analyze, reflect upon and evaluate a given sport-related issue, and to have an understanding of their own role in relation to that issue.

Presentations and group work.
Reading materials, literature and lectures are in English (e.g. ppt, case studies, etc). The use of Danish (and other languages) literature is allowed. Interaction with the teacher can be in English or Danish.

Literature will be announced in Absalon at least one week before the start of the course.

The students give each other mutual feedback on exercises, in which they have been working and learning skills in sport psychology. The lecturer provides feedback on the small written assignments that are delivered during the course - either as general feedback to the class or to the specific groups or single individuals.

Type of assessment details
Written assignment, which is made in groups of 2-3 students.
The assignment consists of max. 15 standard pages* for groups of two people and max. 20 standard pages for groups of three people. In the report you have to clearly specify the contributions of each student (this has to be done to allow individual assessment).
*A standard page is 2400 characters including spaces. Title page, reference list, appendices etc. are not included in the page count. Pages exceeding the limit will not be assessed.
