Cancelled MOVE: An International Course in Geology and Communication

Course content

MOVE is an innovative bottom-up project course that focuses on the design of online virtual geoscience excursions. UCPH students will work together with students and professors across Europe to design films, websites and guides on a chosen location of geoscientific interest that include drone surveys and foster the active participation of students of Earth sciences. A new location is chosen each year.

It is a collaborative course taught by and involving students from the Charles University-Prague, University of Heidelberg, Sorbonne University, University of Copenhagen, University of Milano, and University of Warsaw as part of an EU4+ programme.

The themes of the course are:

  1. The design and implementation of a geoscience field excursion together with students of geoscience across six European Universities.
  2. The planning, filming and production of films, websites, and guidebooks related for the field site
  3. Communication of science to both specialist communities and the public

• 15 page report due at the end of Block 5 (August)
(Focus: the geology of the visited area, the material and product worked on (i.e., short film, guidebook, etc.),
• An oral presentation in powerpoint of 20 minutes that can contain a “sample” of video material (5 minutes) and/or presentation of what they will have achieved in terms of video and/or website content.
• An oral exam of 10 minutes where questions will be asked on the report and ppt presentation

There is no preparation time for the oral exam.
Part-exams are not weighted, and an overall assessment is provided.
Only certain aids allowed

Exam without aids. All aids are allowed when students are working on their written assignment. No aids allowed at the oral examination. The students can bring a copy of their handed-in report.
