The course will disseminate the scientific background of nanoscience and address state-of-the-art applications in medical science. Research and innovation are highly integrated in the course. It is based on introductory lectures on advanced topics in nanoscience and critical reading of recently published reviews in the field and articles. The course will also include activities in smaller groups of students :
- two oral presentations (about state-of-the-art techniques and recent articles)
- two virtual laboratory exercises with focus on design of experiments
There are the following compulsory assignments during the
1 – One protocol for each laboratory exercise
2 - One report for each laboratory exercise
3 – Two oral presentations
4 – Act as opponent for other presentations
BSc Programme i Nanoscience
The overall goal of the course is to learn and understand how biological molecules and / or nanomaterials can be exploited for novel biological applications. Completing the course the student is expected to have acquired basic principles about:
• Design of new biomolecules based on their intrinsic properties
• Techniques for investigations at the nanoscale level
• Design of nanomaterials & devices for biological investigation
• Interface of biological complexes with surfaces
• Establish protocol and run experiments using state-of-the-art equipment available in the bionanolab
• Critical reading and discussion about scientific articles in the field
a. Explain the goal and methods used in the experimental part.
b. Describe several types of applications of bionanoscience with their specificities
c. Discuss interface between material / biological sample (principle, technical challenges, ..).

The course is similar to the discontinued course NKEB15000U Nanobio 3. Therefore you cannot register for NKEB21003U - Nanobio 3, if you have already passed NKEB15000U Nanobio 3.
The students get:
- regular oral and collective feedbacks on the electronic quizzes
- oral and written collective feedback on their lab reports
- individual oral feedback on their presentations of scientific articles
- an inividual written feedback at the end of the course summing up literature work (not graded), lab exercises and oral exam.
