DCC Danish Architecture and Urban Design
Course content
Danish Architecture and Urban Design is a course offered in English for international students.
In Denmark, architecture is seen as a much wider practice than merely the art of making buildings. The course provides an overview of Danish architecture, urban design, and planning over the last 100 years, with particular emphasis on life-centered and human-centered perspectives on architecture and the built environment.
Excursions and self-guided field studies to see and experience examples of the architecture and planning are important elements of this lecture course. Examples of architecture with Nordic approaches to the planning and design of the physical environment will be presented and discussed.
Culture, climate, scale, and more recently sustainability, are important elements in the way the Nordic Welfare States and the profession have dealt with and adapted international tendencies. These aspects and many other socio-spatial qualities will be unfolded and deliberated across the duration of the course.
